Bryan Johnson recently threw down a gauntlet: his Blueprint products are cheaper than DIY. Cue raised eyebrows.

Now I have NOT measured my biomarkers when taking his premade products and compared them against my biomarkers for DIYing nutty pudding.

I am here to explore convenience, cost, nutrition, and flavor

Let’s dive into a head-to-head!

Ingredient Comparison: Blueprint vs. DIY Nutty Pudding

Ingredients in Bryan Johnson’s Premade Nutty Pudding Mix:

  • Pea Protein
  • Hemp Seed Protein
  • Sunflower Lecithin
  • Flaxseed
  • Allulose
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Natural Chocolate Flavor
  • Organic Ceylon Cinnamon
  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Pomegranate Fruit
  • Monk Fruit Extract

Ingredients in the Premade Mix that are Not in DIY Nutty Pudding Recipe:

  • Pea Protein and Hemp Seed Protein for additional plant-based protein
  • Allulose and Monk Fruit Extract for sweetening
  • Grape Seed Extract for added antioxidants

Notable Absences in the Premade Mix:

The premade mix doesn’t include Chia Seeds, and the amount of macadamia nuts and walnuts in the Blueberry nut mix is no more than 2 teaspoons combined in the entire scoop.

The main cost and the biggest ingredient in the home made / original recipe nutty pudding is macadamia nuts, and there are hardly any at all in the nut mix. We are not comparing apples to apples here!

Flavor differences between DIY Nutty Pudding and Premade Nutty Pudding

So this is definitely in the palette of the beholder. Rory and I did a taste test and concluded that the premade nutty pudding tastes more like dessert, and has a mousse like texture. The DIY nutty pudding tasted more like “food” – berries, and nuts, with a thick, filling, somewhat creamy texture. I also thought the premade nutty pudding tasted very similar to a Power Bar Protein Bar.

The way I make my DIY nutty pudding is like a smoothie bowl, I blend half a cup of frozen berries with the prepped nutty pudding mix, add water, pour that into a bowl, then put more berries and a seed mix on top. It’s really satisfying in taste and texture when prepared this way.

We both concluded that we definitely prefer the flavor (and texture) of DIY nutty pudding, but that the premade seems great to have when in a pinch or traveling.

Cartoon Rory and Jen taste the premade nutty pudding mix, Rory is pleased, Jen is grossed out.

I would love to hear everyones opinions on the flavor differences. Do you prefer the flavor and texture of DIY nutty pudding or premade nutty pudding?

Conclusion

The DIY Nutty Pudding Recipe offers more flexibility in terms of ingredients and comes in at a significantly lower cost per serving ($2.32 vs. $4.58).

When you compare the DIY Nutty Pudding (with and without Naked Goat protein) to the Premade Nutty Pudding + Blueberry Nut Mix, it’s clear that the DIY version delivers more in terms of healthy fats, fiber, calcium, and a broader spectrum of minerals.

Flavor and texture are personal preferences, but I definitely prefer DIY Nutty Pudding.
